Garage Sales are certainly on top of the list of our "best things to do for newcomers to Canada"! It is amazing what treasures you may find there. People of different socio-economic groups, different cultures are eagerly visiting garage sales on weekends, everybody for a different reason: Some of them just for curiosity, some of them in need of furnishing a new home for less. Some of them are looking for special items, most probably collectors. Bits and pieces, wonderful to look around, to see what people have gathered together in years. When they no longer need it, they just make it available to others who actually could need them, for small amounts of money, and sometimes, not seldom, for free.
In our first garage sales experience, a family gave us 3 bags full of mugs, instead of 1 bag we had actually paid for. All of a sudden, we had 29 mugs! Almost enough to start our own garage sales!
Tomorrow is again a garage sales day, we are excited about new things waiting to be discovered.
I actually should write a book about getting along on little money... "The Canada Manual" maybe :)
